As part of the Pathways to a Healthy Kansas grant program, RISE Cowley invites you to join Be a Quitter, a county-wide tobacco cessation initiative.

Funded by Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Kansas®, Pathways to a Healthy Kansas provides tools and resources to enable healthy eating, active living, and tobacco-free lifestyles. Several Cowley County healthcare providers have already signed the Pathways pledge, committing to taking action in at least one of these three areas.

The RISE Cowley healthcare subcommittee developed Be a Quitter with a goal to bring more local resources for tobacco cessation to our community. This phased, collaborative approach includes:

  1. Offer a policy template to help providers advocate for tobacco cessation among patients and their families.

  2. Hold facilitator training to bring Beat the Pack® programming to the Cowley County area.

  3. Create a comprehensive list of local, state, and national tobacco cessation resources including area employer assistance programs to utilize during consultation.

  4. Develop an opt-in page for tobacco users to receive information about future Be a Quitter initiatives.

  5. Start a quit-smoking coffee club in partnership with Graves Drug.

After achieving these steps, it is our goal to apply for a Pathways Coordination is Key achievement grant to help fund expansion of Be a Quitter. This would mean additional educational  and promotional materials available to you at no cost and enhanced cessation support for your patients/clients.

The above tobacco cessation policy is designed to be adapted to your unique needs. Adopting the policy means you are taking the first step in our Be a Quitter initiative and would be included in the Coordination is Key grant. Once you sign the policy, please contact our committee chair so we can confirm your inclusion in the grant application.
